Butterflies

Class Approach

The Butterfly class is designed for children ages 3 and 4.  We understand that in these early stages of life, the impact of cultivating strong social and emotional skills is far reaching. We work to provide our students with tools and experiences that give them self-awareness, the perspective of others, and learn empathetic behaviors.  We take into account the uniqueness each child brings to the classroom and celebrate our differences. Our Butterfly staff is nurturing, loving and helps to create an environment where compassion and kindness are integrated into all that we do.

The following skills in the social emotional domain are practiced daily:

• Self-regulation-learning to become “masters of our own behavior”
• Healthy ways to build good relationships with others.
• Work cooperatively and collaboratively in games and other group activities.
• Label feelings and emotions.

Emotional understanding grows in concert with other forms of learning such as in the cognitive-thinking domain.  We used a themed based curriculum where topics are chosen around children’s interests.  We emphasize the following in our learning:

• Inquiry based learning/asking questions
• Child centered projects
• Experimentation and problem solving
• Dramatic play scenarios and role playing
