We are accepting applications for our Sunbeam JRK class – this class is for students who will be 5 by 12/31/15. All other classrooms are full with a wait list. If you would like to be added to our wait list, please call or email the office with your name, child’s name, child’s date of birth and contact information. There is no fee to be added to our wait list.
Registration
Early Registration
Early registration for the Fall 2015 school year is available to returning families and alumni of A Child Becomes and runs from Mid December through Friday, January 16, 2015. Registration information will be sent home with current students in mid December 2014. Applicants will be enrolled in classes according to eligibility guidelines (see chart below) and class preference, if applicable. Notice of acceptance and class enrollment including a tuition contract, will be mailed out or sent home with your child in the two weeks following the close of Early Registration.
Open Registration
We are implementing a new procedure for open registration. This new process provides more options and greater flexibility for new families to submit their application for open registration.
Initial Round Open Registration
To be considered for the initial round of open registration, families can either drop off or mail in their application at any point through Friday, February 6th, 2015. Your application must be post marked NO LATER THAN 2/6/15. Applications must be complete and include the $200 registration fee to be considered. Applicants will be selected randomly from the pool and assigned to classrooms based on what is requested and availability. Applicants are either enrolled or placed on a wait list. Enrollment notices will be mailed out on Friday, February 20th.
Ongoing Open Registration
Applications for the 2015 -16 school year received AFTER February 6th, 2015 will be considered first come, first serve, for any spaces that remain after our Initial Round Open Registration enrollment letters are sent out on Friday, February 20th. Applicants will be notified within 2 weeks of this date for submissions received prior to 2/16/15 or within 2 weeks of submission for those received after 2/16/15.
Tours
We will offer tours to interested families beginning the week of January 12th. Tours are available on Wednesdays and Thursdays during specific times Tours will be available Wednesdays and Thursdays at 9:00, 9:30, 10:00 AM and 1:00, 1:30 and 2:00 PM. We will provide a look into the classrooms as they are in session and answer questions. We ask that you do not bring your children or any siblings. Children may visit the classroom during our Open House. Please email or call the office (206-932-4642) to arrange a tour time.
Open House
A Child Becomes will be hosting an Open House for all families on Sunday, January 25th at the school. Drop by between 2 – 4 PM, meet our teachers, and tour the school. Preschool Fair
Come visit us at the West Seattle Preschool Fair on Monday, January 12th from 5:30-7:30 PM at St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church – 3050 California Ave SW, 98116. Meet our Director and learn about our philosophies and admissions process. Hope to see you there!
Criteria for Classrooms
Each classroom, Caterpillars (ages 2 1/2 – 3), Butterflies (ages 3 – 4) and Sunbeams (ages 4 – 5+) will follow the age requirements outlined below. Children are developing and learning so quickly in these preschool years! Grouping children of like ages allows our teachers to develop and focus the curriculum in way that best compliments the child’s stage of development and prepare them for the next year of learning. If you are interested in a classroom that is outside of the age guidelines below, please email the office. We will consider exceptions based on an evaluation of your child. Our primary goal is to place students in the classroom that best suits their developmental needs which include social, emotional and cognitive.

Class Assignment Process
Children are enrolled into classes based on the Age Guidelines and/or class selection. In the case that there are more applicants then class slots, early registration applicants will be randomly selected for assignment into their preferred or eligible class, and a waiting list will be formed. Caterpillar and Butterfly class applicants who do not receive their preferred class will be placed in any remaining open classes for their class band and also placed on a waiting list for their preferred class.
Wait List
As classes fill, a wait list for each class will be generated for pending applications. There is no charge to remain on our wait list. Application fees will not be deposited until your application is accepted and your child is enrolled. Please keep in mind that class lists can change dramatically between February and the start of school in September. Please do not be discouraged if you are placed on a wait list. You will be notified if and when a slot opens.
Tuition and Fees
Tuition is an annual fee that covers the school year from September through June. It can be paid in advance at a discount or split up into 10 payments over the course of the school year. Monthly payments are due on or before the 1st of each month. First month’s tuition is due by August 1st. A tuition contract with payment requirements will be sent to you via mail after your child is enrolled.
Tuition varies by class time duration. We offer three distinct classrooms for instruction separated by age: Caterpillars, Butterflies and Sunbeams. Each classroom offers a choice of class time each week. Tuition does not include fees for school supplies and field trips. A school supply list will be sent out via email in the summer leading up to the first day of school, please ensure we have an accurate email address for you.

FIELD TRIP FEES
There are between 8-10 field trips over the course of the year for the Butterfly and Sunbeam classes. There are no field trips for the Caterpillar classes. Field trip costs will be paid in advance of the school year rather than as each trip happens during the school year. A one time, non-refundable fee will be due on or before September 1st (approximately $50-$100.) These fees do not include costs for parents who may choose to accompany their child.
