Summer Camps

We have another great offering of summer camps including two new camps, Lego Robotics and Italian Cooking.  We’ve also brought back our Running and Training camp that was so popular a couple of years ago and our ever-popular Marine Science, Great Artists and Hiking camps. Our summer camp team is eager to introduce your child to these interactive, creative and explorative experiences that take us from the beaches of Puget Sound across on the Vashon Ferry to Quartermaster Harbor to the Cascade Mountain ranges; we offer varied adventures for several different age groups that are sure to excite!

Download our registration form below and make your selections and submit it to our office along with a check for the full amount of the camp(s) to the office at A Child Becomes Preschool.  Registration forms can be dropped off during school hours or mailed.  Checks are cashed in mid-May.

Camp Selections for 2015

Our camps are a sensory experience, designed to enhance and strengthen your child’s interest in the world of science, art and nature. The natural world is abundant with possibilities for children to explore, discover and investigate, and summertime is a perfect opportunity to explore the outdoors!

Camp Sessions

All camps begin and end at A Child Becomes Preschool and run from 10 AM – 3 PM. Camps that include travel are indicated. We rent commercial vans to transport campers. Your child must have a safe booster for travel if age appropriate. Signed permission slips will be required on the first day of camp. All camps require that you pack a healthy lunch.

Session 1
Lego Robotics

Date: June 17/18/19

Age Range: 8 – 11

Camp Fee: $250

The camp is led by Alex Miller, a Garfield High School student and Lego Robotics Specialist. Teachers Shelley and Hope will be on hand as his technical assistants. Alex has six years of experience competing on an international, underwater robotics team, where he designs and integrates mechanical, electrical and software systems. He mentored the LEGO robotics program at Lafayette Elementary for the past two years, fostering exploration and curiosity, while teaching unique skills such as flowcharting, torque, and gear ratios.

If you have a student who likes to tinker with Legos and technology, you won’t want miss this exciting opportunity.

Session 2
Hiking

Date: June 23/24/25

Age Range: 8 – 11

Camp Fee:  $250

Campers will hike in the North Bend region including trails along Franklin Falls, Denny Creek and Tiger Mountain. All hikers will learn the ten essentials as well as several flora and fauna that we will find in the old growth forest. We will make our own energy trail mix and first aid kits. We will spend one-day geocaching with our GPS units. Your hiker will need a backpack, sunscreen, water bottle and covered shoes.  INCLUDES TRAVEL.

Session 3 (FULL)
Marine Science

Date: June 30, July 1/2

Age Range: 5 – 8

Camp Fee: $250

These dates include the lowest tides of the summer season! Our campers will explore three beaches in the Puget Sound region and will learn all about identifying invertebrates such as crustaceans, echinoderms, mollusks, and cnidarians (crabs, sea stars, clams, and sea jellies!) Explorers need sunscreen, a hat, water bottle and water shoes. INCLUDES TRAVEL.

Session 4
Great Artists

Date: July 14/15/16

Age Range: 5 – 11

Camp Fee: $220

This camp is led by Sean Williams an upcoming graduate of Western Washington’s Fine Arts Program. He spent a year abroad in Florence, Italy studying the great masters and brings his expertise as our campers learn about several more modern artists. We will study Picasso, Chagall, and Pollock. We will begin with a brief biography of each artist and then explore the unique styles and techniques of each as we immerse ourselves in our own creative projects.

Session 5
Running and Training

Date: July 21/22/23

Age Range: 5 – 11

Camp Fee: $220

Teachers Shelley and Kristi combine over 30 years of running experience.  Shelley has been coaching athletes for more than 10 years.  Together they will share their knowledge of running, the latest training techniques on the track and on the trails. Your camper will also learn field event techniques like using a turbo javelin, shot put, and the long and high jumps. INCLUDES TRAVEL.

Session 6
Marine Science and Kayaking

Date: July 28/29/30

Age Range: 8 – 11

Camp Fee: $250

Another low tide: Minus 1.5 We will study invertebrates, vertebrates such as the local salmon and bottom fish species, and then spend our last day kayaking from the beaches of Inner Quartermaster Harbor around Vashon Island. Explorers need sunscreen, a hat, water bottle and water shoes. INCLUDES TRAVEL.

Session 7
Italian Cooking

Date: August 4/5/6

Age Range: 7 – 11

Camp Fee: $220

This camp will feature an Italian chef who will share some of the basics of Italian cooking. We will learn to make a simple Bolognese sauce using homegrown tomatoes, we’ll hand toss pizzas and make our own ravioli. We will then create our own Little Italy when we dine with white tablecloths and candles. This will be an Italian experience to remember!
